Sarah Lovett hosts writer’s workshop: Get Your Best Start on Your Bestseller

The UNM Writers Conference was over. I was wrapping up the background research for the first of my Global Village Mysteries, Green Pastures. As I started the actual plotting and writing of the first book, I thought it would be the perfect time to take Sarah Lovett’s one-on-one four-week workshop “Get Your Best Start on Your Bestseller.”

Let’s not get carried away with the “Bestseller” part, but . . . I knew I had problems fitting plotting together with writing, and thought the concepts listed under her course description—many of which I had frequently heard of but knew I didn’t really understand—would be trade secrets to which she would give me the key.

It turned out that the key she helped me forge was the key to my own hidden resources and daring.

What I needed to do, and Sarah had the ability to nudge me towards, was to trust that I had technique, even if I didn’t know the name for each particular piece of it, to let go of trying to be in CONTROL and to learn to settle for—then glory in–being in CHARGE of the many real, conflicting, burgeoning elements of my story.
