Wild Horses Running Free: Sarah Lovett Workshop 4
After taking Sarah Lovett’s workshop, I’m trying a new way of working, with just me, my inspiration and my courage at the center of it all.
Write like this
Write a scene as it comes. . . . Then spin off from that to interactions between characters I need to explore, or who will answer questions about plot, or protagonist, or antagonist, that I’m still murky about. . . . Move on to write more scenes on the ground of character and action solidified for me by that work, including new possibilities, and maybe new acquaintances, who have arisen through that work. . . . Pause to explore an area of research which I need to flesh out, a scene, or place, or character, so I can inhabit them fully when I write from within them–discovering, as I know I will, astounding revelatory new aspects of environment, culture, or character that will add resonance to my channeling. . . . Then back to writing again, keeping alive to possibilities, to what’s happening between characters, to the active overall shape of the story. . . .
And have fun!
Oh, yes, and Sarah also suggested, several times, that I have fun with the process. She’s from California. That must explain it.
I’m sure you can see from the amount of thought and space I’ve devoted to her workshop, that it’s been both fruitful and inspiring for me. THANKS, SARAH, for sharing your knowledge and care!
